In a spirited home opener, the Montclair High School boys' volleyball team showed flashes of brilliance but ultimately fell to a disciplined Randolph squad in straight sets (25-21, 25-18).

Despite the final score, Montclair kept the pressure on throughout the match. The Mounties fought hard in the opening set, staying within striking distance thanks to strong net play and key defensive efforts. However, Randolph managed to capitalize on a few late miscues to close it out.

Montclair continued to battle in the second set, with standout performances from Kevin Foster, who led the team with 10 assists, and Patrick Bailey, whose defensive work kept several rallies alive. The energy was there, the hustle was undeniable, but Randolph's consistency proved to be the difference-maker.

One of the brightest spots for the Mounties was their scrappiness on defense and ability to challenge Randolph at the net. Benjamin Benninghaus showed his attacking prowess, racking up key kills to keep Montclair in contention. Still, Randolph’s experience and execution down the stretch secured their victory.

While the season opener didn’t go Montclair’s way, the Mounties displayed the kind of intensity and determination that should serve them well moving forward. With strong individual efforts and promising teamwork, expect this group to bounce back quickly and make a statement in their upcoming matches.

Next up, Montclair looks to regroup and claim their first win as they continue their early-season slate. If this match was any indication, the Mounties are poised for an exciting season ahead.
