Making History: Montclair’s First All-Girls Golf Match
In a milestone moment for Montclair High School, the first-ever all-girls golf match in school history was played this week. Although Montclair does not yet have an official girls golf team, that didn’t stop Head Coach Taryn Schnell from assembling a dedicated group of athletes to represent the school.
On Wednesday, the newly-formed all-girls squad competed—and triumphed—against West Essex’s girls club team at Hendricks Golf Club in Belleville, winning the match 205–271.
The five players who made history in Montclair’s first girls golf match were:
Ipek Aygen (Senior)
Paige Gerdes (Junior)
Beatrix Heuschkel (Junior)
Nolah Del Gaudio (Sophomore)
Lilian Carter (Sophomore)
Coach Schnell praised the athletes, saying, “The girls have been incredibly committed. This is just the beginning of something special.”
The Rutgers Experience: Varsity Boys Lacrosse Steps Up
On Tuesday, April 8, Montclair’s Varsity Boys Lacrosse Team had the exciting opportunity to compete at Rutgers University, thanks to a special invitation from the Rutgers Lacrosse Program. Head Coach Mike Diehl, a former Division I midfielder for Rutgers, led the team in a competitive matchup against Westfield High School—one of the top-ranked teams in New Jersey.
The Mounties held strong through three quarters, showing grit and intensity before narrowly falling in the final stretch. The experience served as a valuable test and confidence-builder for the team as they continue their season.
Volleyball Shocks the State with Major Upset
In one of the biggest upsets of the early 2025 season, Montclair’s Boys' Volleyball team defeated top-ranked Livingston in straight sets (25–22, 25–20). The victory is a major statement win for Head Coach Pam Reilly and her squad.
“This win proves we can play—and beat—anybody,” Coach Reilly said. “We’re just getting started.”
