On Monday junior Jahi Whitney (23 points) led the Montclair Boys Varsity Basketball Team to their 3rd win in their last 4 games, as they comfortably defeated Newark Central (NC) by a score of 81-63.
Montclair led the entire game, and they entered the 2nd quarter with a 17-12 lead. Montclair was firing on all cylinders in the 1st quarter, and their defense consistency continued in the 2nd quarter. However, their offense momentarily stalled, as they only scored 12 points to NC’s 8. The third quarter was when the Mounties really broke the game open though, as they outscored NC 33-20. That is the most points Montclair has scored in a quarter all year and rivals the number of points they scored in entire games in some of their worse offensive performances earlier this year. Trailing by 23 points, NC went into the fourth with nothing to lose, and they outscored a complacent Montclair team by five points to finish the game. Montclair was led by their two stars, junior Jahi Whitney, and senior Ben Price (18 points).
With this win, Montclair moves to 6-5 on the year, and they’ll look to keep their momentum heading into an important matchup vs 8-5 Orange.
