The Montclair Boys Fencing Team defeated Montgomery 16-11 in the first round of the NJSIAA State Tournament. Once again, the Saber (7-2) and Epee (6-3) units were the driving force behind the victory. Mitchell O'Keefe anchored the Saber group with a 3-0 outing. Lucas Gilson and Gavin Burr were each 2-1. In Epee Diego Aguirre was also undefeated at 3-0 and Jett Higgins was 2-1. Foil added 3 victories, Charles Moroze (2-1) and Nate Sena (1-1) to seal the deal.

The Mounties will face St. Peter's Prep in the quarterfinals on Wednesday, February 21. The Marauders will undoubtedly be looking to avenge a regular season overtime defeat at the swords of the Mounties. It was Prep's first loss of the season. Jett Higgins got the first touch to secure the win for the Mounties. With the "one and done" nature of the tournament, it should prove to be a highly intense competition. The Mounties closed out the regular season with a three-meet winning streak, and a District Title. Sitting at number 4 in the state's top ten, things are coming together at the right time. The first bout is at 6:00 pm at Glenfield Middle School.
