Congratulations to star senior bowler Tai Burns of the MHS Boys Varsity Bowling Team on winning his second consecutive Athlete of the Year!! Tai had a fantastic bowling career at MHS in which he took home back-to-back Essex County Tournament Championships over the last two years, and was one of 100 bowlers in New Jersey to qualify for states. Burns led a 14-4 Montclair team that suffered a disappointing Quarterfinal exit from the NJSIAA Tournament at the hands of 12-6 Livingston. Despite the loss, Tai certainly played his role as he bowled a spectacular 246.5 game average in the 2 games he bowled, including a 299 game, 1 pin away from the maximum of 300. Tai tallied 10,318 pins this season, and 22,381 in his MHS career. Burne was a model of consistency, as his season game average never dipped below 186 over his 4 years on the varsity team. He upped his game this year, having a 206.9 game average, which is a big step up from his 189.2 game average over the first 3 years of his career, leaving him with a 197.5 game average for his career. Tai more than cemented himself as one of the best bowlers in Montclair High School history, and as one of the best MHS athletes in recent memory. Burns ended his year off on a high note, placing 44th out of 100 bowlers in The State Tournament after securing his second straight ECT Championship earlier in the week last week. Congratulations to Tai on a spectacular career!
