On Saturday, the Ridgewood Maroons beat the Montclair Varsity Boys Lacrosse Team with a final score of 8-4. The loss dropped Montclair’s record to 1-2, while Ridgewood improved to 2-0, further improving their case as one of the best teams in the state.
The Mounties were led by Lafayette-bound senior midfielder Drew Pfeifer, who tallied three goals, and senior defenseman Liam Tracy, who scored Montclair’s remaining goal. Ridgewood saw three goals from senior attackman Jack Schultz, who also had four assists. Additionally, the Maroons got three goals from junior attackman Jack Frers, and a goal each from junior Will Yates and senior Charlie Merrick.
Ridgewood jumped out to a 3-1 first quarter lead, and then added two more unanswered goals in the second, to take a 5-1 first-half advantage.
In the third, Montclair and Ridgewood each scored a goal, and both teams scored twice in the final quarter. On Wednesday, the Mounties travel to take on Fitch-Pitt division rival Westfield (1-1), while Ridgewood plays in Montvale against St. Joseph’s Regional (0-1) on Tuesday.
